TOP 10 OF 2012 FAMILY PROGRAMS

Daily Drop-In Family Program runs DEC 27-31 | JAN 02-06.13 | 1:00 – 4:00 pm

If the weather outside is frightful, come on in and make something delightful during your winter break at the Galt Museum & Archives! Cast your hand, create mini gardens, dig, felt, create and experiment in the Top 10 of 2012 drop-in family program running 1:00-4:00 pm daily December 27-31 and January 2-6, with the support of our family program sponsor the Green Acres Kiwanis Club of Lethbridge.  Projects for the interactive program are based on the historical and cultural themes in the Galt’s special and permanent exhibits, and are designed for children aged 3-12.

Thu DEC 27 Thank You Cards Make some thank you cards using archival photos, or one of your own from home. 

Fri 28      Tiny Terrariums Make a tiny ecosystem in a glass jar to take home. 

Sat 29     Bird Feeders Make your own bird feeder using recycled materials.

Sun 30    Paper Beads/Airplanes Make a paper airplane to race, or make your own paper beads to use in a bracelet or key chain. 

Mon 31    Hand Casting Start the New Year by preserving a little bit of your children's history. Use our safe molding medium to create a mold and then a plaster cast of your child's hand.

Wed JAN 02 Felted Ear Warmers Felt is one of the oldest textiles in the world! Used for many years as a warm, water-repellent fabric.  Make a felted ear warmer to keep yourself warm this winter. 

Thu 03    Topsy Turvy Dolls Use our historic doll pattern to make a doll that is both happy and sad, or awake and asleep. Volunteers have pre-sewn the doll bodies, your job is to decorate them - no sewing experience required 

Fri 04      Marionettes Ever wondered about the history of marionettes?  Come make one of your own and try your hands at performing in a puppet show. 

Sat 05     Jr. Archaeologist Learn how an archaeologist uncovers history and identify their findings in this hands-on program.  Dig for buried artifacts and make a cast of an arrowhead. 

Sun 06    Paper Making Have fun creating hand-made paper from recycled fibres as you make images of weather patterns or create paper cloud mobiles!

 Registration is not required. Admission fees include exhibit access. The program is free for annual pass holders and children 6 and under. Rates are $3 per program for youth 7 and up, $6 for adults, $4 for seniors [to December 31, then $5]. The family rate is $12 [to December 31, then $15]. Annual family passes are $25 [to December 31, then $30]; a new grandparents pass will be available for $30 starting January 1.
