Nerd Fest Redux at the Galt in March

Lethbridge —Nerds know many useful facts, enjoy gaming, science, history, intellectual stimulation, and will make more money than non-nerds in their lifetime... bring on Nerd Fest redux at the Galt Museum & Archives March 6-8, 2014! The fun kicks off with Drama Nutz and their hilarious brand of hysterical history improv, followed by a pop culture trivia night and all night gaming.

“We’re building on the success of last year’s inaugural Nerd Fest,” explains Chris Roedler who looks after special events at the Galt. “We are very excited to be partnering with Drama Nutz for their classic Hysterical History program on Thursday nights, and to work with fantastic local trivia buffs for Pop Culture trivia night on Friday. We’re also stoked to bring back support from Kapow Comics for our popular all night games night.”

"Kapow loves gaming and we love gamers!” says Wallie Desruisseaux of Kapow Comics. “We are super excited to be a part of Nerd Fest at the Galt Museum and supporting the all night games night!"

NERD FEST Redux SCHEDULE:

Thu MAR 06 | 7:00 – 9:00 pm Hysterical History Improv

If it’s in the pages of the history books, it could very well be a part of the night’s improvised madness. Bring your hysterically historical scene suggestions for local funny people Drama Nutz to enact, then sit back and watch as they bring them to life in a series of songs and sketches that will no doubt give you a view of history like you have never seen before!

Fri MAR 07 | 7:00 – 9:00 pm Pop Culture Trivia Night

Join host and trivia nut Chris Roedler and special guests Leila Armstrong, Wallie Desruisseaux, Eric Dyck, Aaron Taylor and others for a historic journey through pop culture trivia. Questions by Trivia Night alumni Chris Epplett and Kevin McKeough too! Play individually or as a team using our handheld electronic responders and compete for prizes in various categories including movies, music and, of course, history.

Fri MAR 07 | 9:00 pm through Sat MAR 08 | 9:00 am All-Night Games Night

must be 14+ | supported by Kapow Comics

Stay after the trivia contest for a night of Dungeons & Dragons, Magic the Gathering (a sealed tournament is planned), Settlers of Catan, Mahjong, Artemis and more. Be prepared for verbal insults from Spamalot’s French Taunter and photo-ops with other like characters. Come in a group or join new friends; come as an expert and share your knowledge, or come to learn new games!  Kapow Comics will provide a number of games for the evening, or bring your own to share. You can even bring your own midnight picnic or indulge in the concession, and a pillow in case you need a nap. But who wants to nap when there’s all-night gaming going on?!

“Games bring people together,” says Community Programs Coordinator Leslie Hall. “Many people have fond memories of competing in a friendly or not-so-friendly game with family or friends. We’re thrilled to have created a program for ages 14+ who love having a fun!”

Regular admission fees apply each night: $3 post-secondary students and youth 14-17, $6 for adults and $5 for those 60+. Admission includes exhibit access on Thursday evening, and admission is free for Annual Pass Holders for all Nerd Fest redux happenings.

A cash bar and concession will be open both nights, and doorprizes will be up for grabs too. For updates and details visit www.galtmuseum.com, call 403.320-3954, or email info@galtmuseum.com.
