HOT TOPIC AT FEBRUARY CAFÉ GALT

Robin and Marian White from the Climate Reality Project will be at the Galt Museum & Archives for the Café Galt presentation Climate Change Reality – A Hot Topic on Thursday, February 02 beginning at 7:00 pm, presented in partnership with the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs [SACPA].
According to the Whites, “the scientific consensus is in: man-made global warming is real and the major cause of various extreme weather events around the world. There are conservative think tank reports which say that urgent action should be taken immediately on global warming, and that we have only five years left to act to avoid irreversible, catastrophic climate change.
“The good news is that we know what needs to be done and we have the tools to do it,” says Robin White. The presentation intends to provoke a lively audience discussion about what all of us must do to deal with this, the greatest problem humanity has ever faced.”
“We will present right-up-to-date pictures, video, charts, tables, text, and narrative to walk the audience through the reality and science of climate change, the behaviour of the "denial industry", key concerns, the carbon dioxide reduction targets needed, government performance, and where we go from here,” says Marian White.
Robin and Marian White are authors of the award-winning book, Wild Alberta at the Crossroads, and longtime providers of public environmental education, to which their extensive travels lend a global perspective. Robin (Master of Environmental Studies, York) was an award-winning land-use planner at the City of Calgary and is a presenter for The Climate Reality Project – Canada. Marian (BSc – Geography, Toronto), has a background in journalism and editing, manages NatureWatch Press, works to reduce their carbon footprint, and plans to restart her vegetable garden next growing season.
“We live at a pivotal time in history when overpopulation, overconsumption, freshwater shortages, and climate change, combined, threaten global catastrophe in this century. It is imperative that all nations move rapidly to develop ecologically sustainable economies, and learn to live within Nature’s limits.”
This Café Galt topic is presented in partnership with SACPA, with free admission, including access to the related exhibit Earth’s Climate in the Balance - a travelling exhibit produced by the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre. SACPA was founded in 1968. It is an independent forum, meeting some 35 weeks a year to debate local, provincial, national, and international issues of concern to the residents of Southern Alberta. The Climate Reality Project Canada (Climate Reality Canada) is a non-profit organization that serves as the Canadian component of a global movement of more than 4,000 diverse and dedicated volunteers from around the world. These volunteers have been personally trained by former US Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore to educate the public about the science and impacts of climate change as well as solutions to address the climate crisis. Climate Reality presenters have already delivered presentations to over 7.3 million people worldwide.
