Watery Woodlands of the Parched Prairie
- Galt Museum & Archives 502 1 Street South Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1Y4 Canada (map)
The semi-arid prairies that we call home are naturally dry and treeless places—mostly. The exception is the wetted outline of scattered streams and ponds. In these special oases, only the toughest of shrubs and trees have managed to survive and they in turn provide refuge for an array of other biodiversity. Our thirsty communities depend on these same scarce waters and we struggle to balance our water demands against the needs of the trees.
