WOOD TURNING BASICS AND KNITTING 101 AT HANDS-ON FALL WORKSHOPS

This fall, wood turning basics and knitting know-how are on the program menu at the Galt Museum & Archives popular Galt Workshops a hands-on history series for adults offered on three Thursdays in the next three months, at 7:00 pm.

 Thu SEP 27 Wood Turning Learn the history of wood turning with the Chinook Wood Turning Guild  and try your hand at completing a top, honey dipper or weed pot – it’s not what you think!

Thu OCT 18 Knitting 101 Join the experts from Knitting Time to learn the basics of knitting: casting on, casting off, knit stitch, and purl stitch.  Needles and yarn provided for your use during class.  You can purchase needles at the class to take home to continue your work. 

Thu NOV 15 Knitting the Next Stitch The experts from Knitting Time return for a more advanced knitting class. If you attended Knitting 101 you can bring your project for troubleshooting!

 “Chinook Woodturning Guild members will teach participants how to use a lathe,” says Leslie Hall, Community Program Coordinator for the Galt. “We expect that will be a well-attended program! And by popular request, we are offering a knitting class with the experts from Knitting Time to learn the only two stitches needed for creating a hat or scarf. In the second class people can troubleshoot their first project, or learn some more advanced techniques.” 

 The Chinook Woodturning Guild will also be at the Galt from September 28-30 for afternoon demonstrations during the 3 Dimensions Sculpture Show, part of the ArtWalk festivities in Lethbridge that weekend.

 Galt Workshops runs from 7:00 – 9:00 pm each night; registration is not required. Admission fees apply: $6 for adults, $4 seniors/students program, includes exhibit access and all supplies. The program is free for annual pass holders. Adult annual passes are available at the Museum Store for $20 and $15 for seniors.
