Native Plants, Practical Felt, Brewing 101 and Seasonal Gifts at Upcoming Hands-on Workshops

Galt Workshops Run Thursdays | 7:00-9:00 pm

Working with native plants, felting with a resist, brewing for beginners, and archival Christmas ornaments and cards are in the works for the Galt Museum & Archives hands-on adult Galt Workshops series October 22 through December 5. Each program starts at 7:00 pm and is included in the cost of Museum admission. A cash bar is open from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, so head out early with your friends for a fun night out!

  • Thu OCT 24 Planting the Past, Preserving the Future: Working with Native Plants June Flanagan shares the secret to germinating seeds of plants native to this region. Using seeds saved from the Native Prairie Plants Garden at the Galt, you'll sow your own to take home, and learn how nature helps sprout them in your garden.

  • Thu NOV 21 Felted Journal Covers Journals have been used throughout time to capture personal histories including art, gardens, individual stories, sketches… discover the historic art of decorative felting to make a journal cover, using fabric to embellish the wool and making felt using a resist. 

  • Thu DEC 05 Brewing 101 presented by Roy Pogorzelski of World Beer Collection for brewing beginners and those interested in creating their own fermented masterpiece. The process will be explained with a visual demonstration, from pre-made Wort to the bottled finished product. PROST!

  • Thu DEC 12Christmas Ornaments & Cardswith Andrew Chernevych and Leslie Hall Use reproductions of archival cards and photographs to make archives-inspired crafts: collaged greeting cards, a paper German Christmas star, and decoupaged lightweight Christmas ornaments. You’ll even take away a bit of history on greeting cards and ornaments to use at the next Christmas party.

Galt Workshops runs from 7:00 – 9:00 pm each night; registration is not required. Admission fees apply: $6 for adults, $5 seniors; $3 students, which include exhibit access and all supplies. The program is free for annual pass holders. Adult annual passes are available at the Museum Store for $25 and $20 for seniors.
