Overview

The race is on! Learn about the lives of coal miners and their families through oral histories, artifacts and a fast-paced simulation. This program highlights the connections between history, natural resources and the economy through the topic of coal mining. 

Curriculum Connections

Written to complement the Grade 4 Social Studies curriculum. The program addresses the following curriculum objectives:

4.1.1 Appreciate the variety and abundance of natural resources in Alberta

4.1.1 Appreciate how land sustains communities and quality of life 

4.1.2 What are the significant natural resources in Alberta, and where are they located (e.g., mineral deposits, coal, natural gas and oil, forests)? 

4.1.4 In what ways do the physical geography and natural resources of a region determine the establishment of communities?
