Way Leong
Despite head taxes and discrimination, some early Chinese immigrants managed to build businesses. Way Leong was a Chinese entrepreneur who, along with his wife Florence Leong, started the Bow On Tong in 1928. The name Bow On Tong translates as Good Health Store and the store served as a pharmacy and health food store. Way and Florence’s son, Albert, still runs the Bow On Tong and is known as the last Chinese person still living in Chinatown. Learn more about Lethbridge's Chinese immigrants in the Bow On Tong display here in the Discovery Hall or take a tour of Chinatown and stop and talk with Albert Leong in person. Just make sure you have lots of time because he has lots of stories.
