SUMMER FUN SATURDAYS AT 1:00 SCHEDULE IS READY

Weekly Program | 1:00-2:00 pm Saturdays unless otherwise noted

Lethbridge – The Galt Museum & Archives continues its partnership with the Green Acres Kiwanis Club of Lethbridge to offer Saturdays at 1:00, its weekly program for families with children aged 3-12, year-round.

 “This summer we will be both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting,” says Leslie Hall, Community Programs Coordinator at the Galt. “We are also moving it to weekdays in July and August which will allow families an opportunity for some weekday fun!”

 April 28 – SEptember 15 schedule: Programs marked with an asterisk will be held outdoors. Please meet program staff at the venue listed. Off-site programs will be cancelled if there is bad weather [check message at 403.320-4700 on program day]. 

 SATURDAYS through JUN 30:

APR 28   Paper Beads Make your own beads out of paper and design a bracelet or key chain.  

* MAY 05 Old-fashioned Games at the Park Join us at Galt Gardens at the Alberta Federation of Labour Centennial celebrations. Program runs from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, free admission, today only

MAY 12   Home Made Ice Cream Make your own individual serving of ice cream using a modernization of an historic method.  

* MAY 19 Valley Walk meet at Fort Whoop-Up and other historic sites in Indian Battle Park.  

MAY 26   Kites Learn about aviation history as you make your own hexagonal kite to fly. 

JUN 02   Marionettes Ever wondered about the history of marionettes?  Come make one of your own and try your hands at performing in a puppet show. 

*JUN 09  Disc-Golf Join us at Nicholas Sheran Park disc golf course to learn the history of this sport, and to try it out. 

*JUN 16  Fishing Join us at Nicholas Sheran Park lake to learn casting and fishing from the Lethbridge Fish and Game Association. Children will cast with weighted lines not hooks, on the grass or water depending on their age. Children under 16 do not need a license. If parents wish to cast they must pre-purchase a license and present it at the program. 

*JUN 23  Downtown Walking Tour Meet at the east side of the museum and then take our self-guided mystery tour where you solve clues and explore downtown history. Fastest team wins a prize

JUN 30   No Program Join us on July 1st to celebrate Canada Day instead!

Saturdays at 1:00 becomes Summer Fun at 1:00 in July & August and runs Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Thu JUL 05     Curl Like the Pros Learn the historic sport of curling in this fun interactive program. 

Wed JUL 11     Chalk Making Join us at the museum to make your own home-made sidewalk chalk. 

Thu JUL 19     Bottle Rockets Celebrate the history of the Canadian Space Program as you make a bottle rocket and compete for prizes. 

Wed JUL 25     Solar Ovens Make your own tiny recycled solar oven!    

Thu AUG 02     Candle Making Learn the art of candle making in this hands-on program.

Thu AUG 09     Tie Dye Learn the art of tie dye using both modern techniques and old-fashioned natural dyes. Bring your own 100% cotton shirt (light coloured), or use a piece of fabric provided at the program to experiment. 

Thu AUG 16     Tiny Sail Boats Using various found materials make your own tiny sail boat and compete in our tiny regatta. 

* Wed AUG 22 Learn Archery with the Lethbridge Bowbenders Learn the basics of archery with the Lethbridge Bowbenders Archery Club 

Wed AUG 29    History of Lunches Ever wondered what people ate for school lunches 100 years ago?  Come sample some old-fashioned lunches as you learn.

SEP 08    Jobs that Don’t Exist Anymore Celebrate Labour Day as you learn about jobs that don’t exist anymore. 

SEP 15    Botanical Rubbings Celebrate the start of fall by capturing images of various plants through rubbings.

SEP 22  Wind Chimes Up-cycle items into your own wind chime.

 Saturdays at 1:00 is offered weekly from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, unless otherwise noted; registration is not required. Admission fees include exhibit access. Admission is free for annual pass holders and children 6 and under. Rates are $3 per week for youth 7 and up, $5 for adults and $12 for adults. Annual family passes are available at the Museum Store for $25.
