Lethbridge—Lethbridge—Lethbridge has had 25 mayors over the last 130 years. Some have become household names, while others are smaller notes in our city’s history. The Galt Museum & Archives is currently displaying an exhibit titled Mayors of Lethbridge, which explores some of Lethbridge’s lesser-known mayors. But what does a mayor do, and what challenges does the job hide? Join Mayor Chris Spearman and former mayors Rajko Dodic and David Carpenter for a conversation hosted by political scientist Lisa Lambert on September 16. Learn about what the job of mayor actually entails—the challenges and benefits associated with the position. Find out what inspired each mayor to get into local politics and what surprised them most about the position.

“Civic leadership is a complex and ever-changing profession,” says Executive Director/CEO Darrin Martens. “As communities such as Lethbridge have grown, diversified, and developed culturally and socially, so too has the role of mayor. The opportunity to engage with past Lethbridge mayors and learn about the process of governing and how it has evolved provides the community with insight and knowledge of how our local democratic systems work.”

Tickets are available online and at the front desk of the Galt Museum & Archives. Doors open on September 16 at 6:30 pm on September 16. Refreshments will be served before the panel starts, and a cash bar will be on site. The one-hour panel starts at 7 pm, with a question period to follow. Seating is limited, so buying tickets ahead of time is strongly recommended. Tickets are available at https://www.galtmuseum.com/events/mayors-dialogue.
