Local Artist Alex Pavlenko Installing new Classroom Timeline Mural

For years the big, empty west wall of the Lethbridge Ironworks Classroom has been crying out for a timeline mural. Something that would serve as a teaching tool and help the thousands of students who use the room each year put the events and ideas they’re learning about into historical context. Finally, that wish is coming to fruition.
Using the Alberta school curriculum as a guide, Galt staff researched dates and information that should be on the mural. Lethbridge artist Alex Pavlenko is bringing these historic dates to life with an historic timeline mural highlighting international, national, provincial and local events. The mural will be invaluable to the Galt’s education programs.
“After everything is installed, visitors are invited to pop into the classroom to have a look,” says Belinda Crowson, the Galt’s Museum Educator.
“This will be an incredible enhancement to the classroom. It will help students make connections with what they’re learning and the larger historic stories. It’ll help our visual learners focus and see clearly how things fit together. Additionally, it’ll bring fun and whimsy to the room. What more can we hope for?”
