Friends Winter Barn Dance at the Galt
The Friends of the Galt invite the community to come dance the night away at the Friends Winter Barn Dance! Winter can feel long, but this event provides an opportunity for the whole family to dance the winter blues away with the amazing Great Canadian Barn Dance Band!
“Barn dances are a long tradition in southern Alberta,” says Elisha Rasmussen, Friends of the Galt Museum Vice President. “Families and communities across the region would gather in community halls and dance the night away, at times literally. This dance is a great time to enjoy the amazing skills of the Great Canadian Barn Dance Band, a regional staple of our musical tradition.”
“The dance will feature a dinner, drinks and a rollicking good time!” says Resource Development and Volunteer Coordinator Chris Roedler. “London Road Market will be supplying a delicious meal of beef on a bun, salad, and of course, cake for dessert.”
Roedler adds that, “the event is a fundraiser for community programming initiatives and hands-on history opportunities at the Galt Museum & Archives. This fundraiser helps over 13,000 students and adults, as well as 11,000 community members, experience the history of southern Alberta.”
The Friends Winter Barn Dance will be held at the Galt Museum & Archives on Saturday, March 7 from 7–11 pm. The event is family-friendly and open to all ages and dancing skill levels. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for youth 11–17 years old, with children 10 and under free. Tickets for this event are available at the Galt Museum & Archives’ store and online at www.galtmuseum.com.
