Lethbridge –This Labour Day weekend, Fort Whoop-Up is going out with a bang!

Get ready for a weekend of fun at Fort Whoop-Up. We have three days of hands-on activities and fun planned for the whole family.

On Saturday, September 1, the Fort will be hosting a mini pow wow from 1 to 2 pm. There will be rope and candle making, quill pen writing, and blacksmith demonstrations throughout the whole day. Try your hand at these historic skills and enjoy the traditional dances performed in the pow wow.

On Sunday, September 2 there will be a shaving station to learn to shave a balloon, or to “sharpen” your shaving skills. The South Alberta Horse Artillery will also be back, by popular demand, to fire their cannon at noon, 2 pm and 4 pm.

“The cannon firings we hosted for the Cannon at the Fort event in July were a big hit,” says Fort Whoop-Up Site Coordinator Natasha Gray, “We were so pleased that the South Alberta Horse Artillery are able to come back for our Labour Day weekend celebrations and really close our season out with a bang.”

On Monday, September 3, the Fort will host a family friendly root beer tasting event from 1 to 4 pm. There will also be Blackfoot games from 1:30 to 2:30 pm and country music bingo from 3 to 4 pm.

Come close out the season and celebrate Labour Day with Fort Whoop-Up this year.
