Curated by Aimee Benoit

This exhibition delves into the history of what, how, and where we eat. It will explore traditional Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) foodways, and consider how eating preferences have changed in Lethbridge since the late nineteenth century. It will also look at some of the factors influencing those changes: social and cultural attitudes, what’s stocked on grocery store shelves, where food is coming from, how much it costs or how it’s packaged and advertised.

Using COVID-conscious interactives and highlighting food-related artifacts from the Galt collections, Lethbridge Eats will invite visitors to reminisce about popular local eateries, consider how food reflects the community’s changing make-up over time and imagine the future of food in southwestern Alberta.
