Job Brief

The Galt Museum & Archives is accepting applications for the casual, non-permanent term position of Museum/Fort Whoop-Up Labourer

(casual, non-permanent term; approximately 18 weeks)

0 to 37.5 hours per week, from May 10 to September 10, 2021

The Galt Museum & Archives is accepting applications for the casual, non-permanent term position of Museum/Fort Whoop-Up Labourer, who will be primarily responsible for providing grounds and landscape labourer support to Fort Whoop-Up and Galt display areas and assisting with the curatorial maintenance at Fort Whoop-Up.

OTHER SPECIFIC DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

You will care for plants and materials in outdoor presentation and exhibit areas, working with volunteers, community members, City departments and partnering societies. Much of your time will be spent outdoors mending, grooming and creating spaces and materials for visitors to enjoy.  You will work with volunteers and staff to deliver effective displays and equipment telling the history of south western Alberta at Fort Whoop-Up. You will be assigned to assist with other functions as required.  This work requires imagination, co-operation, using initiative, and consideration of the museum visitors’ interests.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High school education with a background in landscaping, horticulture, carpentry, maintenance or other similar skills. A valid Class 5 Operator’s license and a current First Aid Certificate is required. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.

WAGE:                  $20.50 per hour                                                                

HOURS:                0 to 37.5 hours per week

Work schedule varies; includes evenings, weekends & holidays

TERM:                    May 10 to September 10, 2021  (approximately 18 weeks)

IMPORTANT :

* All interested applicants (non-City employees) must submit a current Driver’s Abstract (no older than 30 days) with their application to be considered for this opportunity.  If you do not submit an abstract, you will not be considered.  No more than 5 demerits

* Candidates with GDL Licenses will not be considered
