The Galt Museum and Archives | Akaisamitohkanao’pa (eternal gathering place) is embarking on a 1,000 Faces Project that aims at recovering names of individuals of Indigenous heritage from historical images. Through the project, updated archival descriptions will be enhanced with over 1,000 recorded names of individuals of Indigenous heritage appearing in the public database on the Galt website.

The Galt is, therefore, seeking a researcher to undertake this project. The researcher is responsible for:

  • Identifying individuals of Indigenous heritage on archival images using field interviews with tribe elders

  • Cross-referencing the sources for accuracy of identification and spelling.

  • Updating archival description in InMagic database using the collected information.

  • Submitting three (3) articles for scholarly publications or media outlets and preparing a presentation for one (1) an archival or museum conference

As a researcher, you will receive compensation at a rate of $27 per hour, distributed in four installments, contingent upon the outcomes of your deliverables. Additionally, a budget has been set aside for honoraria and gifts. Please note that all deliverables and the final report must be completed by January 31, 2024.

To apply for this position, please submit your resume and cover letter to archives@galtmuseum.com by August 29, 2023.
