Ann Campbell
Were you an Ann Campbell singer? Ann Campbell is one of the best known, and best loved, choir conductors to ever work in southern Alberta. She began training choirs at the age of 14 in Sutherland, Saskatchewan. After coming to Lethbridge, she formed the Southminster Junior Girls’ Choir in 1953. In 1963, she founded the Teen-Clefs and, in 1968, the Anne Campbell Singers. The Anne Campbell Singers went on to win the George S. Mathieson Trophy in both 1968 and 1970 and performed around the world. They appeared at Expo 67, the Dominion Music Festival and Expo 70 in Osaka and also toured Great Britain, Germany, and Holland, winning firsts in competition at the Tees-Side Eisteddfod in 1968 and at the Llangollen International Festival in 1972. In 1976 Anne Campbell became a Member of the Order of Canada. She was also awarded an honorary life membership in both the Alberta Choral Federation and the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association.
