Family Day History Celebration

Photo cutouts! Pin-the-map! Wooden photo puzzles! Genealogy Q&A! A family fun afternoon is planned for the Galt Museum & Archives second annual Family Day History Celebration on Monday, February 17 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Considered a Museum Community Day (one of several offered through the year), this means the activities and exhibits can be enjoyed at no charge.

“We will be offering family history fun for all ages,” says Leslie Hall, Community Program Coordinator for the Galt.

For those who have questions about genealogy research, three members of the Family History Centre will be on hand to lend their expertise.

“Our hands-on activities include making wooden photo puzzles using archival photos; scrapbooking using archival photocopies or your own photos,” says Hall. “We’ll have screenings of archival film clips and tours of the archives too... this is a great opportunity to check out the ‘vault’ where all the history is kept!”

Visitors can share pictures taken at new photo cut-out stands, and Hall invites families to “come dressed up and have your family photo taken by our volunteer.”

Archivist Andrew Chernevych invites people to “check out the new “Treasure Maps” exhibit then see what you know of the downtown through our pin-the-map activity.”

The new exhibit “Arts of China: Glimpses of an Ancient Civilization”, on loan from the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto until May 19, will also be open for exploration.
