FREE ADMISSION AT THE GALT FOR CANADA’S 148TH BIRTHDAY

Lethbridge – Canada's 148th birthday will be celebrated in style throughout the community, including at the Galt Museum & Archives where games, crafts, music, exhibits and more are on offer on Wednesday, July 1 from 1:00 – 4:30 pm. Free admission for the day is made possible by the support of a Celebrate Canada Grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage.

Activities are geared at all age groups, and include making a Canada Day wreath, a red and white windsock, and a paper bag beaver puppet. But that’s not all! Play a game of Snakes & Ladders on our giant board, compete for prizes in the Canadian Music Trivia Room and complete a new Treasure Hunt in the Discovery Hall.

“New this year is a Canada Day themed BINGO game with prizes,” says Janae Redgrave, Community Programs Coordinator at the Galt. “We also have a great line-up of entertainment planned.”

Dance performances will include The Minyo Dancers of the Nikkei Cultural Society of Lethbridge and Area, The Ammena Dance Company, and the Filipino-Canadian Association of Lethbridge, who will each perform for 15-20 minutes. Local acoustic musicians The Bryant & Watson Duo provide food for the soul in a return engagement featuring their unique blend of original and covers which span multiple genres and decades. They will play a set at 1:00 pm, and then two sets following the dance performances.

“We received a federal Celebrate Canada Grant allowing us to offer free admission for residents and visitors again this year,” explains Redgrave. “Popcorn and punch will also be free.”

Exhibits will be open during the Canada Day event, including “A Legacy of Adventure & Art: The Life of Edith Fanny Kirk”, “Whither Girls & Women”, “Money, Sovereignty & Power”, as well as the “Archives Exposed… Kainai Chieftainship” exhibit in the Servus Credit Union Learning Studio, held over through Canada Day.
