Prairie People | Saokitapi (so-key-da-bee)
Overview
The Prairie People | Saokitapi (so-key-da-bee) program encourages students to gain an interest in local history by learning about people in their community’s past. Saokitapi is a Blackfoot word used to describe the people living on the prairies. Through inventiveness and curiosity, students will explore the lives of the Blackfoot and the first settlers to the area, the pioneers. Find out how the Blackfoot and the pioneers lived by viewing archival photographs, taking an exhibit tour, and examining artifacts. Students will also churn some butter and play a stick and rock game.
