The Galt School of Nursing

The Galt School of Nursing was a key part of the work to create and maintain a sustainable primary care facility in Lethbridge in the first half of the 1900s. The nurse students learned on the job as well as in classroom settings, and their lives were strictly regimented while they were enrolled as students.

Wendy Aitkens talks about Amy Sasaki, the first Japanese Canadian student admitted to the school in 1948. Sasaki graduated in 1951 and was followed by many more Japanese Canadian nursing students over the years.
