The Identities of Marie Rose Delorme Smith: Portrait of a Métis Woman, 1861 – 1960 by Doris Jeanne MacKinnon

01 Portrait of a Métis Woman

Dr. Doris MacKinnon presents her research on Marie Rose Delorme Smith (1861-1960), a woman of French-Métis ancestry born during the fur trade era, was a pioneer rancher in the Pincher Creek area. She raised 17 children, established a boarding house, took a homestead, served as a medicine woman and midwife, and published articles in Canadian Cattlemen.

15 Artists on the Canadian Pacific Railway (ca. 1884-1914)

Art consultant, free-lance curator and writer Roger Boulet shares an illustrated presentation based on his exhibit “Vistas: Artist on the Canadian Pacific Railway.” Painters and photographers received passes or other forms of assistance to portray the mountain country between Calgary and the Pacific Coast. It was hoped their work, seen at prestigious exhibitions in Eastern Canada and the UK, would attract prosperous tourists over the CPR.

05 First Nations Dancing by École St. Mary Dance Troupe

Participants in the 7-year old troupe range in age (Kindergarten to Grade 6), ethnicities and experience, practicing and performing First Nations traditional and contemporary dance and music for various audiences.

06 Musical History from the Archives Have you ever wondered about Anne Campbell and her musical legacy in Lethbridge? University of Lethbridge student Alysha Smith will share her research into the musical wonders of the Archives and Mrs. Campbell's history in southern Alberta.

20 Bellevue Coal Mine Join Bellevue tour guide Suzanne denHollander for a virtual tour of the mine and to learn the lingo of a coal miner. The Bellevue Mine opened in 1903 and mined out 13 million pounds of coal before closing in 1961.

     

 

 

06 Niagara Falls: Dramatic History with Clark Bernat Niagara Falls is part of the tapestry of Canada. The waterfalls themselves have illuminated communities, attracted millions of visitors and are known to people in the remotest villages in the remotest of countries. This discussion will examine people's impressions of Niagara Falls, the iconic status of the Falls and also explore some of the dramatic history of the community; including the Honeymoons, Daredevils and the War of 1812


20 Inside the Remington Carriage Museum with Darren Marty

Don Remington was a self-made man who rose from Depression-era poverty to become a leading citizen of his hometown of Cardston. For 30 years he collected and painstakingly restored horse-drawn vehicles.

The Remington Carriage Museum now houses the largest collection of horse drawn vehicles in North America with over 270 carriages, buggies, wagons and sleighs. Curator Darren Marty highlights the Don Remington story and a selection of carriages.

03 Wonderful Waterton: the Park with a Remarkable Past Chris Morrison, Waterton author and historian, recounts how Waterton's people and events made it more than just another pretty mountain retreat.

17 Canadian Science and Engineering Hall of Fame Come along on a guided tour of our special exhibit to learn about groundbreaking discoveries by Canadian scientists, engineers, medical researchers and inventors - including aeronautical engineer Elizabeth MacGill, builder of the first portable pace maker Jack Hopps, and William Boyle whose work is integral to all digital cameras today.
